Investing in the future of energy

To support our members in an ever-changing utility industry, Tri-State is focused on implementing best practices in our industry, like expanding programs that support the wise use of electricity, and staying on the cutting edge of technology. We do so by partnering on research, development and demonstration efforts aimed at tackling a number of important energy and environmental issues – and we have been recognized by the electric industry for its commitment to these initiatives.

What is beneficial electrification?

Beneficial electrification extends the benefit of a cleaner grid by using electricity in new and exciting ways focused on implementing technology that has historically been powered by fossil fuels to technology driven by electricity. In partnership with our members, electrification can save co-op consumers money, benefit the environment by reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions, improve consumer quality of life, and foster a more robust and resilient grid.

Electric vehicles

At Tri-State, we’re spending nearly $2 million to help members install EV chargers in their service area. For EVs to work in our area, it’s important there’s infrastructure to leave range anxiety behind. Our EV Experience Fleet gives member employees and consumer-members the opportunity to test-drive EVs and identify what solutions they need in their area to help make EVs more convenient. Giving people first-hand experience to decide if it’s right for them.

Beneficial electrification and efficiency

From electric forklifts and electric-powered outdoor equipment to LEDs and heat pumps, Tri-State's long-standing BE&E program helps increase the affordability of efficient technology to end consumers by providing our members with a wide range of energy saving solutions that they can offer to their membership.

Research & development

We support various pilot programs to bring R&D innovations into the field, like the indoor agriculture project expected to deploy in Craig, CO this fall. In addition, membership comes with direct access to top experts from EPRI, CRN and SEPA, so members can explore their own innovation interests. Member's employees have their own EPRI accounts and work closely with us to further innovation and technology for their end consumers.

5 Reasons Why You Should Buy an Electric Vehicle in 2020

Green technology inventions are revolutionizing the way we generate energy, recycle consumer goods and live more sustainably, but not all environmental advancements are as practical as wind farms and solar energy. From groundbreaking technologies, we develop practical applications that can lead us into a cleaner future and here are 6 unusual technologies emerging in clean energy today.
